Seagrass Syllabus

Seagrass Syllabus

In June 2010, the World Seagrass Association and Seagrass-Watch—in partnership with Conservation International—developed the first curriculum focused on seagrass management for resource managers. With this curriculum over 50 managers were trained on the importance of seagrass ecosystems and their services, what threatens them, and how to implement effective measure to protect them.

Following these training sessions, the WSA developed a manual—the Seagrass Syllabus—for educational purposes that, together with the curriculum, is freely available worldwide to continue to increase awareness on seagrass ecosystems, to educate the general public and to improve the management of this critical resource.
This syllabus is the first of a series of initiatives that the WSA is taking to increase the profile of seagrasses within the global conservation arena. Many members contributed to creating and designing the manual, and we look forward to continue to improve it.

It is our hope that this syllabus will represents a useful tool to ensure that seagrass ecosystems receive due attention so that their ecosystem services can be secured for the future.
